چکیده

We combine lensing, stellar kinematic and mass-to-light ratio constraints to build a twocomponent (luminous plus dark) mass model of the early-type lens galaxy in PG1115+080. We find a total mass density profile steeper than r, effectively ρ ∝ r ′ with γ = 2.35± 0.1± 0.05 (random + systematic). The stellar mass fraction is f∗ = 0.67 +0.20 −0.25 ± 0.03 inside the Einstein Radius (RE≈1.2 effective radii). The dynamical mass model breaks the degeneracies in the mass profile of the lens galaxy and allows us to obtain a value of the Hubble Constant that is no longer dominated by systematic errors: H0 = 59 +12 −7 ± 3 km s −1 Mpc (68% C.L.; Ωm = 0.3, ΩΛ=0.7). The offset of PG1115+080 from the Fundamental Plane might indicate deviations from homology of the mass profile of some early-type galaxies.

The Importance of Einstein Rings

We develop a theory of Einstein rings and demonstrate it using the infrared Einstein ring images of the quasar host galaxies observed in PG 1115+080, B 1608+656 and B 1938+666. The shape of an Einstein ring accurately and independently determines the shape of the lens potential and the shape of the lensed host galaxy. We find that the host galaxies of PG 1115+080, B 1608+656 and B 1938+666 have...

For the quadruple gravitational lens PG 1115+080, we combine recent measurements of the time delays with new lens models to determine the Hubble constant H 0. We explore the effects of systematic uncertainties in the lens models on the estimates of H 0 , and we discuss how the uncertainties can be reduced by future observations. We find that the lens cannot be fit by an isolated lens galaxy, bu...

Keck Spectroscopy of the Gravitational Lens System PG 1115+080: Redshifts of the Lensing Galaxies

The quadruple system PG 1115+080 is the second gravitational lens with a reported measurement of the Hubble constant. In addition to the primary lens, three nearby galaxies are believed to contribute significantly to the lensing potential. In this letter we report accurate redshifts for all four galaxies and show that they belong to a single group at zd = 0.311. This group has very similar prop...

Constraints on H0 from the Central Velocity Dispersions of Lens Galaxies

We employ Schwarzschild’s method of orbit modeling to constrain the mass profiles of the central lens galaxies in 0957+561 and PG 1115+080. We combine the measured central projected stellar velocity dispersions of these galaxies with the self-similar radial profiles of the rms velocity and of the Gauss-Hermite moment h4 observed in nearby galaxies for 0 <∼ R <∼ 2Reff . For 0957+561, we find a 1...

Redshifts of the Gravitational Lenses B 1422 + 231 and PG 1115 + 080 1

B1422+231 and PG1115+080 are gravitational lens systems producing quadruple QSO images where there is real promise that time delays can constrain the Hubble constant. In addition, the lensing galaxies are both part of groups which can play an important role in modelling the lens potential. This article reports redshifts for the lensing galaxies and three neighboring galaxies in each of the two ...
